Watersheds

A watershed is an area of land where all the water in it goes back to the same place. They have high points and low ridges running through them. Watersheds are drained by rivers and streams. The water moves in a cycle, after rain falls and snow melts. We live in the Elm Fork of Trinity River water shed. It is important to monitor the water quality of a watershed because only 1% of freshwater at any given time is available for use. Through watersheds we are able to store water and need to identify any issues early before droughts begin to occur. Watersheds provide the ability of carbon storage reducing green house gasses in our area. The healthy watersheds also provide a strong home for fish and plants in our are. They can keep recreational activities such as fishing clean and growing. Watersheds are an important part of our communities.
